Exquisite Corpse Project August 2007 - Series Statement
This body of work is based on the surrealist technique cadavre exquis or Exquisite Corpse. Players (friends or other artists) were asked to draw one body part (head/neck, shoulders/torso, waist/hips, legs/feet) on a pre-waxed/inked/marked sheet of paper. After drawing, they then concealed their image and passed it on (either directly or through the mail) to the next person for a further contribution. One body part was always drawn by me.
After collecting all the “under drawings”, I began to work on putting together the pieces as a whole. I was excited by the prospect of having each body part drawn by a different friend and then, through my overdrawing, painting, and collaging, creating a cohesive, yet very strange image of a person.
